Met up with childhood friends this weekend and one challenged me to stick to my walking by committing to the Walk for Hunger organized by Project Bread. This would be a 20-mile walk that takes place every May in Boston.
Here is my post from my first day of training: So, I wake to find the sun has already warmed the air. I’m running late as I gather my necessary equipment: my sneakers, a floppy cotton hat from Eddie Bauer to protect my freckles, prescription sunglasses, and, of course, iTouch with a “walking” playlist of upbeat music. I leave the house at 7:45 am to walk about a mile around the neighborhood. It is not difficult as the path is level today (already planning to incorporate a route with hills in the future). I didn’t overdo it this morning because I want to ease back into walking after a 2 week absence. Perhaps I can confuse the body into accepting this new behavior. I do raise my heart beat a bit but I didn’t really walk fast … And .. I didn’t time myself today.
