First it was LinkedIn 5 years ago which connected me to known and trusted colleagues from past and present. Then came Facebook and it opened up and brought back people from all parts and times of my life with its various groups from schools, companies and interests. Social Networks created an online environment with connections to everything else online so it was more interactive than plain e-mail. In fact, straight e-mailing has decreased. I joined a few other sites as people investigated various social networks but as we now know , the top three became Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Twitter is unusual. It’s about micro-blogging to the universe (based upon public or private reach). You never know who will follow you. But, strangely, it can work to attract your target audience based on your use of #hastags, @reply, retweets, plus more techniques. In fact, increasing number of new words added to our common language now needs a new dictionary based on these social networking sites. (for Twitter dictionary see: http://twictionary.pbworks.com/)
